Cyprus Hughes

Cyprus Hughes was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Otis Mae and Sam Hughes on July 9, 1951. After graduation from high school, he attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, where he became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the Black Student Association and the Gospel Choir. Mr. Hughes graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and M.S. degree in Education. He later earned a Doctorate in Theology from Andersonville Baptist Seminary.

Mr. Hughes has worked in the arena of education for over 25 years and is currently an Admissions Advisor at Parkland College and serves as the advisor to the Black Student Association. Rev. Hughes is a licensed and ordained Baptist Minister and has been an Associate Minister at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church for over 22 years and the Pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Mattoon, Illinois.

Mr. Hughes is a seminary instructor at the American Baptist College - Champaign-Danville Extension, a member of the Dr. Martin Luther King Justice for Advocacy Committee, a member of the Ministerial Alliance of Champaign-Urbana and Vicinity, a member of the Religious Leaders for Community Care and the Institutional Review Board of the University of Illinois. He is the husband of Caretta Armstrong Hughes and has one daughter (Cynita) and one granddaughter (Chyrell).
