Lt. Col. Norman L. Lambert was born on January 19, 1943
in Elkton, Maryland. He moved
to Providence, Rhode Island, at the age of 9; after entering
high school, he excelled in basketball and track, and was
offered college cholarships for both sports. In fall 1961,
he chose to attend American International College (AIC)
in Springfield, Massachusetts, on a basketball scholarship.
He graduated from AIC in June 1965 and entered the United
States Air Force shortly thereafter and served for 26 years
at various command levels in the continental United States
and overseas. His last assignment prior to his retirement
on August 1, 1991, was as Assistant Deputy Commander for
Resource Management at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul.
After leaving the Air Force, he was hired as Assistant
Director of Student Support Services (now Student Life)
at Parkland College, where he served as Counselor and Coordinator
of Disability Services. He provided academic, career, and
personal counseling to hundreds of students each year. His
community service work included serving as a member of the
Champaign Community Unit 4 School Board and he was a member
of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and The Church of The
Living God, Champaign.
He and his wife Genevieve were married for 38 years and
the parents of seven children. They were strong advocates
for abused or neglected children, having been foster parents
to 70 children over the years.
Colonel Lambert was a graduate of Air War College and had
a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration,
a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration, and a
Master of Arts degree in Counseling.
