Bruce Nesbitt
Bruce Nesbitt was born November 14, 1932 in Champaign, a son of Herbert E. Nesbitt, Sr. and Pauline Gillespie Nesbitt. He graduated from Champaign High School in 1951. He married CharLotte Neither in 1957; to this union was born five children.

Mr. Nesbitt served in the Army then held a number of jobs until joining the Champaign Police Department. His first year on the force, he solved two murders and was named Rookie of the Year.

Mr. Nesbitt then went to work for the University of Illinois, first recruited as an official of the Housing Division and then, in 1973, as the first director of the Afro-American Cultural Programs office.

Mr. Nesbitt started a student-tutoring program at the Douglass Center and was president of the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club board. He established or helped start the Moms Day Fashion Club, the Association of Black Alumni, the Black Congratulatory Exercise and helped gain academic credit for members of the Black Chorus. He worked with Iota Phi Theta fraternity. He was a member of the St. Luke CME Church. The Bruce Nesbitt Scholarship Fund at the University of Illinois was established in his honor.
