Sarah B. Payton

Sarah B. Payton, mother of Octavia (Buckley) Cole was born in Mississippi in 1895, the oldest of ten children born to John and Fannie Brent Buckley. She attended grade school in Mississippi.

In 1949, she came to Champaign, Illinois and worked as a domestic for many years to help support their ten children. She was a devoted member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir and also was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Society.
